ASSESSMENTS
My name is Sang and I’m a late diagnosed autistic psychologist whose experience has revolved primarily around neurodivergent people across the lifespan.
My approach to assessment is simple, even if the process can appear complex. I aim to assist in developing a stronger understanding of neurotype to best facilitate appropriate support and growth as a person.
My priority will always be in the interest of the individual’s sense of self and identity, and what I consider the best way for them to navigate life in the context of their diagnosis.
ABOUT THE ASSESSOR
What Assessments do we offer at
Wheatbelt Psychology?
-
Autism Assessment
Including a comprehensive report.
-
ADHD Assessment
Including a comprehensive report.
-
Dual Assessment
Including a comprehensive report.
Whether you opt for an Autism, ADHD, or a dual assessment is entirely up to you. At the very least, the other diagnosis will be screened (i.e. if you choose an Autism assessment, then ADHD will be screened during the assessment process).
Please note that depending on additional assessment, observational, or reporting needs, costs for these may change, but nothing will be confirmed without consulting with you first.
AFFIRMING
TRANPARENT
COLLABORATIVE
Diagnoses are surrounded by very formal, clinical expectations and oftentimes appear to be rigid or investigative. We don’t consider this affirming nor do we view this as an effective way of exploring neurotype. We can assure that the process:
OUR APPROACH
Is not designed to “trick” you or catch you out with surprise questions or deceptive discovery tactics.
Is not a matter of “neurotypical until proven otherwise” – i.e. you’re not trying to “convince me” of a diagnosis.
Is collaborative and your intuition is respected; we’re looking for evidence together and I’m providing the clinical guideline.
Will provide opportunity to capture as clear and comprehensive of a picture as possible – I will reach out following the appointment day if I need clarification or more information.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Assessment Process
PRE-ASSESSMENT
CONSULTATION
1
A pre-assessment consultation is offered if interest is showed in booking one of our assessment services. If it is established that a formal assessment is the best path for your needs, then the booking process will begin with confirming a date for an assessment interview. Here we will also establish pricing
APPOINTMENT DAY!
3
On the appointment day, we will have a face-to-face session that will last approximately two hours, where we do the bulk of clinical interviewing (MIGDAS-2 and/or DIVA-5).
If the person being assessed is a child, then an additional session will be booked with the child that will also last approximately two hours.
2
A link will be sent that will ask you or other supporters in the system (e.g. teachers) to complete some questionnaires – this provides me with information that will reinforce the assessment process. This is expected to be completed at least one week before the appointment day.
REPORTING
4
Following review of the questionnaires and the assessment appointments, reporting will begin. You may be contacted for further information if required, but we aim to capture everything within the bounds of what we agreed on in our pre-assessment consultation (Step 1).
FEEDBACK SESSION
5
Approximately 1-2 months following the appointment day, a feedback session is booked to discuss outcome and recommendations.

FAQ
-
Sang is a psychologist with general registration. His assessment can form part of the Autism diagnostic process; however, another clinician or medical professional may need to review the assessment and complete the diagnostic process.
Depending on your preferences and referral needs, this may be a speech pathologist, occupational therapist, clinical psychologist or another medical professional. You may choose your own clinician, or we can help coordinate an appropriate external clinician.
-
An ADHD assessment does not guarantee that medication will be prescribed. Medication requires a separate assessment and evaluation by an appropriately qualified medical professional, such as a psychiatrist.
-
No. A diagnosis of Autism or ADHD does not automatically result in access to funding, services or additional supports.
We will provide the clearest possible assessment evidence and recommendations to support your application. However, eligibility decisions are ultimately made by the relevant organisation, such as the NDIA or Department of Education.
-
Your report will provide a comprehensive overview of the assessment findings, outcome and recommendations.
Where appropriate, we can use language that is neuroaffirming and respectful of neurodivergent identity. Some organisations, including the NDIS, may require more formal or needs-focused information to demonstrate functional impact and support requirements. We will discuss the intended purpose and preferred approach to your report during the pre-assessment consultation.
-
It can be difficult to receive, or not receive, a diagnostic outcome that differs from what you expected.
Our role is to provide a fair and accurate assessment while respecting your experiences and intuition. You are not expected to convince us of a diagnosis; we work collaboratively with you to explore the available evidence.
Whatever the outcome, we will discuss what it means, provide recommendations and help you understand your available options and possible next steps.
